The Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights and Labor (DRL) has announced a Request for Statements of Interest (RSOI) from organizations interested in submitting Statements of Interest (SOI) for programs that support the policy objective to provide critical support to human rights defenders in Eurasia.
SOIs should support DRL’s objective to assist activists in Eurasia who have been forced to flee their country and help them remain engaged in human rights work from abroad, the announcement adds:
This program should focus on supporting these activists in the medium term through 6 month or longer internship placements and applied fellowship programs; English language instruction and psychological and logistical support should also be considered. The implementer should have an awareness of the communities of embattled activists across the region, or be able to partner with groups who hold those connections. The implementer should have connections in several European countries and be able to place activists in internships or academic research in European NGOs or universities. Proposals with more than one center, country, etc. where activists can be placed will be considered more competitive. The implementer should act as a facilitator and provide the funding to the host NGO or institution to accommodate the internship or fellowship. The program should also connect participants to existing training opportunities; and provide opportunities to gather with other participants of the program for experience sharing and possible collaboration.
