RSF militia casts a shadow over Sudan’s transition hopes

     

Despite government efforts to wrestle the gold industry away from Sudan’s security services, questions remain about whether the country can transition to democracy while the politically powerful Rapid Support Forces, the paramilitary group whose leader Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo is now a central figure in Sudan’s transition to democracy, run their own parallel economy, The Guardian reports.

To mark Black History Month, the American Democracy Month Council interviews Sudanese civil society activist Mohamed Abubakr of the African Middle Eastern Leadership Project, a partner of the National Endowment for Democracy (NED).
