Democracy Digest, the National Endowment for Democracy‘s daily blog, is an indispensable source of news and analysis about democratic ideas and institutions.
Originally a product of the Transatlantic Democracy Network, the Digest is affiliated with the World Movement for Democracy, a global network of democrats including activists, practitioners, academics, policy makers, and funders, who have come together to cooperate in the promotion of democracy.
The Digest is edited by Michael Allen, Special Assistant for Government Relations and Public Affairs at the National Endowment for Democracy.
A former journalist covering European and international labor affairs, Allen also worked on civil society and labor development in Asia for a consortium comprising the World Bank, Nike, Gap and the International Youth Foundation.
He graduated from the University of Leeds, UK, with First Class Honors (summa cum laude) in Political Studies and undertook doctoral research at the University of Liverpool. Allen lectured on political theory, history and labor relations on the faculty of universities in London and Manchester, and Cranfield School of Management, one of Europe’s leading business schools.
