The Hundredth Anniversary of the Founding of Czechoslovakia will be the occasion for honoring Secretary Albright for her unparalleled contribution to the return of the Czechs and Slovaks to the democratic societies of the world. The annual Award for a Courageous Writer at Risk to an individual who has fought for freedom of expression and other rights in an exemplary, inspiring manner will be presented by Carl Gershman, President of the National Endowment for Democracy, the Washington, D.C.-based democracy assistance group.
